Recording with Spirio   |   Editing with Spirio

 

Recording on Spirio | r

Tap the Record button in the center of the navigation pane.

Tap on the red Record button on the lower left side to begin. When finished, tap the Record button to stop recording.

You are prompted to either save or discard your recording.
To save - type in a title for your recording and choose a file destination. If you wish to create a new folder, tap the + icon on the top right corner.
Tap Done on the iPad keyboard.
Now, you can choose to make a new recording, edit the previous recording, or exit the recording function.

Editing with Spirio | r —  Overview

Editor layout - recordings are presented in a piano roll format.  Each note, displayed on a grid, corresponds to the note on the left-side reference keyboard.  The timeline is visible across the top of the screen.

Dynamics "heatmap" - each note has its own color, based on how loud or soft it is.  The loudest notes are red, quietest are white.

Zoom - to zoom in, pinch in with two fingers.  To zoom out, either pinch out with two fingers or press the magnifying glass at the bottom right to zoom out to 100%.

Editor Main Controls

Edit a single note

To edit a single note, tap on the desired note for the note pop-up edit window. Here, you can adjust the following note parameters:

Edit pedal data

Tap the Pedal button on the lower right - it will change from blue (view) to yellow (edit). The pedal curve field will turn light grey in edit mode. 

Select the desired pedal at left (sustain or shift).

There are two ways to edit pedal data: freehand and point-to-point.

Freehand: Drag the pedal curve from bottom (not engaged) to top (fully engaged) and place as needed.

Point-to Point: This allows you to edit the curve by placing two different points. Simply tap where you want to insert the first point.  Then, tap where you want to place a second point.  The two points will then be automatically connected.   

Note - the pedal contact point is indicated by the dashed grey horizontal line.

Edit Groups of notes

Tap the Lasso tool on the bottom left

Drag a closed circle around the desired notes

The note edit pop-up window appears - you can now make global changes to velocity (volume) - which proportionally changes the dynamics of a group of notes, pitch, time/duration of the selected notes, or delete the selected notes.

Snap to playhead

Use the Snap to Playhead button to align a note or group of notes to a specific time value.

Place the playhead at the desired time value by either dragging to location or entering the time time window.

Select the note (touch on-screen) or group of notes (lasso tool) and in the pop-up editor window, tap the Snap to Playhead button.  The note(s) will align with the playhead.

Copy/Paste

To copy/paste a note or group of notes, first select the note (tap on-screen) or group of notes (Lasso tool).

In the pop-up detail edit window, select the Copy icon.

Move the playhead to the desired destination for the copied note or notes.

Tap the playhead and select the Paste icon.

Add Time

To add time to a performance, first tap the playhead.

In the pop-up playhead edit window, select the Add Time icon.

In the pop-up insert time dialog box, enter the amount of time desired (one second equals 1,000 ms).  Select Apply.  

Delete Time

To delete time to a performance, first tap the playhead.

In the pop-up playhead edit window, select the Delete Time icon.

In the pop-up delete time dialog box, enter the amount of time desired (one second equals 1,000 ms).  Select Apply.
